Familiar Faces: Portrait Photography and Lighting

Monday to Friday (July 30 to August 3) 10:30am to 3:00pm 
 
Description:
What makes a compelling portrait? How can you tell a story about a person through one image? Through shooting, editing and postproduction students learn the varying approaches and techniques of portrait photography. This camp will have a strong emphasis on compositional skills, lighting and camera tech.  Each class will begin with a look at contemporary and historical portrait photographers such as: Alec Soth, Jill Greenberg, Jody Ake, Annie Leibovitz, Joni Sternbach, Diane Arbus, Josef Karsh and Julia Margaret Cameron. This intermediate course will include at least two field trips to neighborhood businesses and the Menil grounds. 
 
Snacks will be provided. 
 
What to Bring: 
- Camera: Point-and-shoot or DSLR Recommended 
- Lunch 



About Lindsey Thompson

Lindsey Thompson is living and working in Houston as an artist and educator of many mediums and processes. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography and Digital Media from the University of Houston, but her investment extends into performance arts, dance, and design.  Lindsey has been teaching photography, electronic multimedia, filmmaking, movement, drawing and painting in some significant capacity since 2008, as an employee of Cypress Fairbanks ISD, Living Lines Dance Center, and since, through organizations such as Aurora Picture Show and Houston Center for Photography.  Lindsey has been performing with Jennifer Wood and Suchu Dance since 2004 as well as working with other choreographers in the community whenever she finds the opportunity.  She continues to develop her own choreography, photography, and video work personally and professionally.



Registration

Registration for courses and workshops takes place through HCP's website on a first-come first-serve basis. HCP members receive discount on all of our education events. If this is your first time taking a course or workshop at HCP you will need to create a profile online; make sure to add the camp participant's name at the "student name" field. Registration will be complete upon receipt of the filled student form.
