Level: Intermediate
Class Size: 7 Students
Description:
Cultivate vision, creativity and digital proficiency using the flatbed scanner as a camera. This workshop introduces participants to rich creative possibilities of the scanner as a supplementary optical device in their studios or classrooms. Other than simply convert analog materials to computerized data, the scanner's shallow depth of field, limited available light, and high resolution detail can be accessed as a way of making unique imagery. The workshop will provide a brief history of contact printing, camera-less images and photocopy artwork and will introduce students to contemporary artists using scanners in thrilling and stunning ways. We will explore composing 2- and 3-dimensional objects on the scanning surface, software settings, resolution and basic adjustments in Adobe Photoshop CS5. There will also be hands-on opportunities for participants to create and print scanner images as part of a fine art portfolio.
