Critique and professional practice counseling and planning for fine art photographers
A weekend spent talking about and looking at photographs – yours, your fellow students, and other contemporary photographers (via slideshows). This is a great opportunity to present the work you are making, or have made, to get constructive feedback; to hone your mission as a photographer, to figure out the next step in your artistic development, to change direction or to concentrate on your direction, to solidify your thoughts about your work, or to have them shaken. What is it you want to do with photography? What do you want to say? What do you want your viewer, your audience to feel? Who is your audience? Why are you photographing? These issues of expression are what we will focus on during this intensive critique.
We will also discuss formal and technical issues, editing photographs, photo career issues, art gallery issues, commercial photography issues, and whatever else is appropriate to the work presented and the student’s individual needs.
There is no focus on particular subject matter or technique – everything and anything is appropriate. You can shoot film and/or work digitally, work with b/w and/or color, any format, any size. The focus is on you, your vision and your expression. The goal is that you will leave the weekend workshop with tools that will assist your individual evolution and growth as an artist, and that will move your work to its next level.
This class is open and appropriate to anyone comfortably past the beginning stage. Please bring in a body of work; it does not have to be in final form or a perfect presentation but it does need to be in print form, even rough prints, to enable full class viewing of all the work at once. Be prepared for intense thinking and talking and looking!
What you should bring:
- Body of work in print form
The class fee includes a boxed lunch
Join us for an Artist Talk with Sally Gall on Saturday, November 16 at 6:00p.m. - free and open to the public
