Artist Photographer Members Hector Jose Fajardo

I started taking photographs in the early 1980's. I had always been intrigued by "seeing" things, details, colors, shades of gray, B&W etc., but it wasn't until I joined the Javier Sandoval Studio at Bogota, Colombia that I started getting into the nitty gritty of photography. It was there were I learned about films, cameras, darkrooms and really transforming what I saw into tangible B&W photographs.

We had a group called FOTOCLUB 180 that was very active in the photography scene at that time. We would meet and experiment with new things in photography. We had, however, "day jobs" and with time, we stopped meeting and producing, as a group, great photographs.

We had the opportunity to participate in the following exhibitions in Bogota, Colombia:

1982   SENA Regional Bogotá -  “FOTOCLUB 180” – Bogotá, Colombia

1982  Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango – “Fotografía y Para-Fotografía” – Bogotá, Colombia

1983   Galería Fotográfica Colseguros  - FOTOCLUB 180  - “Interiores” – Bogotá, Colombia

1983  Casa Luis Peru De la Croix – “FOTOCLUB 180” – Bucaramanga, Colombia

I left Bogota, due to my day to day work, and started moving from country to country. I carried my darkroom and cameras around, but was not printing a lot of my work. I kept "seeing" and capturing images but it was not until several years ago when I decided to go digital and pursue what I had always liked to do.

I had resisted being digitalized and always thought that the real photographer was a film photographer. How wrong was I.  A brand new world opened in front of me. You have to change with the times and take advantage of new technologies. Nowadays there is so much tools around that the creativity is limitless.

What I do now is mostly travel photography, making emphasis on the details, the textures, and the lights. Some of it might even look abstract. I also like to capture images of people in their day to day. I photograph what captures my eye and my imagination.  To show it, a photograph needs to capture my heart and hopefully it will capture yours.

The photographs you will see were taken during different trips I’ve taken in the last several years. You can see these and others in my website www.fotofaj.com
