HOUSTON, TX - Houston Center for Photography is proud to announce the exhibition Selected People featuring the work of Pelle Cass. The exhibition will be on view at HCP in the Main Gallery from September 9 - November 6, 2011 with an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 9, preceding the opening reception.
Cass's work both orders the world and exaggerates its chaos. The photographs in Selected People are composite images that begin with the artist's camera on a tripod, taking hundreds of images of the same scene as countless people pass by. Then, working in Photoshop, he simply leaves in the figures he chooses and omits the rest. Nothing has been changed, only selected. The work shows a surprising world that is visible only with a camera.
Pelle was born in Brooklyn, NY, and studied photography at the University of New Mexico, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Minneapolis College of Art. He holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and now lives in Brookline, Mass.
