The catalog marks HCP's first major undertaking in self-publication and has established a design standard which HCP seeks to achieve in future catalogs. Made by Will: Selections from Four Portfolios features 57 images by photographer Will Michels from his exhibition, at HCP, of the same name. Designed by Antonio Manega of Gazer Design, coordinated by Caroline Docwra, HCP's Programs Assistant, and printed by Blurb, the publication is now available for sale in the HCP galleries and online.

About the Related Exhibition
Comprised of self-portraits, studies, environmental portraits, and busts, Made by Will: Selections from Four Portfolios, opened in Houston Center for Photography’s Main Gallery on May 7, 2010, and contained seminal works made by the photographer Will Michels over the last 15 years. Antecedents were also included, along with supporting documents such as the photographer’s journals and sketches. The exhibition remained on view through June 27, 2010.

Organized by Madeline Yale, HCP's Adjunct Curator at the time of the exhibition, Made by Will: Selections from Four Portfolios is the first comprehensive exhibition of Michels’ more intimate work. The images in Made by Will: Selections from Four Portfolios are evocative; they demonstrate a heightened degree of emotional intimacy and firm understanding of art history. Rich in tonality and expertly printed, Michels’ gelatin silver, cyanotype, and salted paper photographs are works by a Master printer who is destined to create beautiful and intriguing images for years to come.
