HOUSTON, TX - Houston Center for Photography is proud to partner with CEC Artslink to bring artist Alexander Ugay to the United States. Currently living in Kyzylorda City in the southern region of Kazakhstan nicknamed "Texas," Mr. Ugay is interested in visiting and working in the natural Texas as he develops his project "We are from Texas."
Ugay will be in Houston from October 15 - November 13, 2010. While he is in Houston, he will continue work on his ongoing projects as well as expand on his "We are from Texas" series. HCP will offer a artist talk with reception during his stay in which the artist will be able to show his work and discuss his thought and work process behind his various series.


About the Artist:

Born in 1978 in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan, Alexander Ugay is a artist working in photography and video. Mr. Ugay graduated from Kyrgyz State University of Low in 2002. Of Korean descent, now based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Ugay has traveled extensively working and adding to his portfolio while exhibiting through Europe in galleries in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Italy and France. Though he has never visited the United States, he has also exhibited in several galleries in the US, including: BOSE PACIA Gallery, New York; College of New Jersey; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; Queens Museum of Art, New York; and New Museum, New York.
