About HCP / News

Houston, TX - Houston Center for Photography announces Magnum Photos and Baume & Mercier Moments In Time on view in HCP’s main gallery February 21 – March 6, 2008. An opening reception will be held on February 21 from 6-8pm, and a VIP closing reception and pre-launch party for FOTOFEST2008 on March 6 from 7-9pm. Magnum Photos, the world’s most prestigious photographers’ cooperative and the watch-making house Baume & Mercier pair up to present this unique exhibition of Magnum’s most iconic photographs spanning six decades.

Moments In Time consists of thirty of the most celebrated images of the 20th century, as well as some highlights from major events of the 21st century. The exhibition embodies the historical importance of Magnum Photos as a documenter of history, and includes several world-renowned photo journalists
as well as founding and early members of Magnum. Mark Lubell, Director of Magnum, states "Magnum photographers are visualauthors, and this exhibit represents 60 years of uncompromising storytelling." Amongst the photographers included in the exhibition are: Steve McCurry, Robert Capa, Josef Koudelka, Inge Morath, PhilippeHalsman, Elliott Erwitt, and Martine Franck.

Photography confirms itself as an accessible art form for all —contemporary and constantly evolving, a trait shared by Baume &Mercier as a watchmaker in step with the times. “For a number of years, Baume & Mercier has developed a close link between watchmaking and photography, as Baume & Mercier believes both art forms share the search for real and unforgettable moments that make the life of each and every one of us unique,” said Michel Nieto, Baume & Mercier Chief Executive Officer.
