Artist/Photographer Member Michael Loyd Young received the 2010 Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Photography Award for his book
Blues, Booze, and BBQ published by Powerhouse Books.
Exerpt from judges commentary: "My selection as this years winner, BLUES, BOOZE AND BBQ, is an example of a book that combines the past and present of the lively heritage of good times as seen the food, music and drink of the region. Young's book shows the multi-dimensional quality of a music culture that survives in juke joints, roadhouses and festivals that cuts across the lines of age and race, all- the -while demonstrating that the blues represents an ongoing living tradition in Mississippi. His color photographs capture both quiet behind -the- scenes moments and the lively infectious vitality of the music and audiences that have come to make the blues a modern timeless American music, one that will forever be deeply rooted in the soil of Mississippi."
