CollaborationsIn its ninth year, the Collaborations program included 22 students from 14 Houston-area high schools. Participants meet regularly at HCP with instructors, and the program culminates in a final exhibition of their work that fosters public speaking and presentation skills through the vehicle of artist talks, which are attended by the general public in HCP's galleries.

HCP'PictureThis! is an educational outreach program that helps children with critical forms of cancer and blood disorders think and dream beyond their illness. The program began in 2002 at the Children's Cancer Hospital at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and in 2007 it expanded to the Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center at Texas Children's Hospital. The collaborative aspect of PictureThis! program enables the students/patients to improve their communication and problem-solving skills.

In Spring 2012 we launched the pilot program of a new outreach initiative, created out of the success of PictureThis! and Collaborations. CONNECTIONS consists of lesson activities organized in five modules that present photography in a creative, hands-on way for children in various locations including community centers, hospitals and after-school programs.

HCP Fellowship submissions have seen an increase over the years
from 85 in 2006 to 234 in 2012.

Each year, internationally acclaimed scholars on photography, including curators, writers, critics, museum directors and editors select one individual who employs photography and/or related media in his/her creative practice to receive the HCP Fellowship. The chosen Fellow - who must reside outside of a 100-mile radius of Houston - receives a solo exhibition in HCP's galleries, a monetary award of $2,500 and is featured in HCP's Spot magazine. This fellowship is generously supported by the Joan Hohlt and Roger Wich Foundation.

THE CAROL CROW MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP
This Fellowship grants opportunities to emerging under-recognized photographers and artists working in the Houston area to develop their skills and build their careers. Fellows receive a solo exhibition in HCP's galleries and a monetary award of $2,500. Each Carol Crow Memorial
Fellowship is matched by the HCP Fellowship. This Fellowship is generously supported by the friends and family of Carol Crow.

Spot magazine is HCP's critical journal on photography. Published continuously since 1982, Spot has provided in-depth critical writing, ongoing documentation of the exhibitions and activities of HCP and the photographic community at large, and has acted as a forum for ongoing and timely debate about photography and related media. Spot is the only journal published in Texas to offer dialogue on contemporary photography, and has an average circulation of 2,500.
