HOUSTON, TX - Houston Center for Photography is proud to announce an exhibition of work, Senior Dogs Across America, by photographer Nancy LeVine. The exhibition will be on view in HCP's Main Gallery from May 4 - June 23, 2012 with an artist talk at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, preceding the opening reception.

Nancy LeVine began traveling the United States to photograph senior dogs eight years ago. Reflecting on Robert Frank's, The Americans, she found dogs inhabiting all manner of American life -- and with many years inscribed in their beings.  Her interest in the subject began when her own dogs began to approach the end of their days. It was then she started to imagine her own mortality. She saw how the dog does it; how, without the human's painful ability to project ahead and fear the inevitable, the dog simply wakes to each day as a new step in the journey. Though their steps might be more stiff and arduous, these dogs still moved through each day as themselves -- themselves of that day and all the days before.
