Houston, TX – Houston Center for Photography announces the naming ceremony and celebration of the John Cleary Library on Saturday, June 28 at 11am. John Cleary (1937-2008) was a passionate photography collector and dealer who fostered a photographic connoisseurship in Houston.
During the past 12 years, John Cleary’s gallery on Colquitt Street became a renowned Houston institution known for its focus on celebrated mid-twentieth century photography as well as promoting contemporary photography. In addition to his photography collection, Cleary also acquired an extensive book collection on photography. The Houston Center for Photography’s John Cleary Library is home to more than 2,000 books on photography and related subjects The Houston Center for Photography’s John Cleary Library contains photographic monographs, photographic surveys, self-published artist books, exhibition catalogs from all over the world, instructional guides and select periodicals. More than just a library, the John Cleary Library serves as a comprehensive forum for photography and education. Open during HCP hours and by appointment, the public is welcomed to visit the John Cleary Library and share John Cleary’s passion for photography.
