Houston, TX- Houston Center for Photography proudly announces its 2010 Print Auction. This event, HCP’s largest annual fundraiser, will take place Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Junior League of Houston, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane, Houston, TX 77027.  At 6pm, the evening kicks-off with cocktails, entertainment and a preview of the silent and live auctions. Dinner will be served at 7:00pm. World- renowned auctioneer, Rick Wester, will conduct the auction of live prints beginning at 8:00pm.  The silent auction will close 15 minutes after the live auction is completed. Table sponsorships are available at $1,500 (table of 10) and $900 (table of 6). Absentee bids are welcomed. The silent auction works are available for pre-purchase on HCP’s website (www.hcponline.org) with a “Buy It Now” feature at 125% of the works’ valuation. Included in this year’s selection are works by Larry Fink, Louis Faurer, Will Michels, Joni Sternbach, Wendy Watriss and Fred Baldwin, Alejandro Cartagena, Scott Dalton, Sally Gall, Keith Carter, Joel Meyerowitz, Steve Fitch, and Judy Haberl.



Each year, HCP holds a print auction where artists, galleries and collectors from around the world donate fine photographic works to be auctioned for the benefit of HCP’s general operation. Representing over 80 established and mid-career photographic artists with work collected in museum and private sectors, the selection is an impressive catalog of both vintage and contemporary fine-art prints. One-hundred percent of sales from the auction will go to the continued exhibition, educational, outreach, and publication work that HCP provides to not only the Houston community but to the international photography community.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s group, Photo Forum, will be co-hosting a tour of the auction exhibition in the HCP galleries. The tour will be held on February 8, 2010 at HCP beginning at 6pm, led by Anne Wilkes Tucker, Gus and Lyndall Wortham Curator of Photography at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and Clint Willour, Curator, Galveston Arts Center. This event is co-sponsored by Photo Forum and is free and open to the public. Drinks will be served.

HCP will host a Collector's Panel Discussion.  Please join us in a panel discussion about collecting photography on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 6:30pm at HCP. Whether you have never purchased a photograph or you are a long-time collector, the conversation will be fun, interesting and informative.  Panelists will include Catherine Couturier, John Cleary Gallery owner and director, Gemma DeSantos, DeSantos Gallery owner and director, Del Zogg, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Collections Manager, Works on Paper and Photography, and Dr. Morris Weiner and W. Burt Nelson, long time collectors.
