HOUSTON, TX - Executive Director & Curator Madeline Yale submitted her resignation to Houston Center for
Photography's Board President Patricia Eifel last week. This fall, Madeline will be leaving HCP and Houston to pursue
personal goals in London and Dubai; in her new home, she intends to pursue an advanced degree in photographic
studies, teach, and continue her curatorial work. Her last day at HCP will be September 10, 2009, following the opening
of Artist as Performer, one of the many exhibitions Madeline has organized in consultation with HCP's exhibitions
committee. Ms. Yale will remain involved with the organization in an advisory capacity.
"This decision was very difficult to make, as I enjoy my role and responsibilities at HCP, working closely with the Board
and staff to sculpt and implement our vision for the organization," Yale said. "Since I first took on the role of Director
and Curator in the fall of 2006, HCP has undergone some wonderful changes; membership has grown by 127%, our
budget has increased by 30%, and our new Learning Center is going strong, accounting 20% of the organization's annual
income. I am certain that HCP’s future leaders will continue this legacy of growth. The organization is poised to reach
new heights, and I look forward to following its progress and maintaining close ties."
“HCP has been extremely fortunate to have Madeline at the helm during a critical period of institutional growth and
development,” say Board President, Patricia Eifel. “Madeline’s energy, dedication, and creativity, her knowledge of
contemporary photographic trends and her charismatic personality have helped to transform HCP into the dynamic
organization that it is today. The influence of her contributions will continue to be felt long after she moves on to the
next phase of her career. Everyone on the Board and in HCP’s family wish her the very best.”
HCP is launching a search for a new Executive Director immediately. Details about the position and information about
applying is available on HCP's web site at
www.hcponline.org. The position is open until filled.
