Join us outdoors for free, in-person educational photography workshops while exploring the beautiful landscape of CityPlace at Springwoods Village in Spring, Texas. These community-driven workshops focus on photography as a means for creative expression and acquiring basic photography skills. No prior experience is necessary, and all levels of proficiency and camera types are welcome. Teens (16 years and older) and adults are welcome.
Each workshop will begin with a photography lesson at the CityPlace Plaza (pictured above) followed by time to explore and take photos, and will conclude with an informal critique.
NOTE: Online registration is required to participate in these workshops. Class size is limited to 9 students, and students are highly encouraged to wear face masks and practice social distancing. If you are feeling ill or have recently been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please refrain from attending the workshop to protect the safety of our staff and other workshop attendees.
June 26, 2021: Architecture and Manmade Landscape: Learn about strategic approaches to photographing architecture and other manmade landscapes while exploring CityPlace Plaza and the surrounding area. All camera types are suitable for this workshop.
July 24, 2021: Natural Light Photography: Learn how to harness the natural light from the sun to create well-lit photographs outdoors. All camera types are suitable for this workshop.
August 28, 2021: Macro Photography: Explore small details of CityPlace Plaza and the surrounding area through close up photographs. All camera types are suitable for this workshop, and macro lenses are welcome but not required.
September 25, 2021: Camera Basics: Learn the basics of how your camera functions and how to correctly expose your subject through various camera modes and controlled combinations of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. All camera types are welcome, but a camera with manual settings is best suited for this workshop.
October 23, 2021: Composition Basics: Line, Shape, and Texture: Learn the basics of framing and how to incorporate line, shape, and texture to create outstanding images. All camera types are suitable for this workshop.
November 20, 2021: Capturing Holiday Family Portraits: No more awkward family photos! Learn some strategies for how to capture your best family portraits for the holidays. All camera types are suitable for this workshop.
December 18, 2021: Using Aperture Priority Mode and Shutter Priority Mode: Learn how to move past Auto Mode and have greater creative control over your photographs! This workshop will cover how to shoot in both aperture priority mode and shutter priority mode in order to adjust how much light enters your camera when taking photographs. A camera with manual settings is best suited for this workshop.
