Portraits are one of the most potent kinds of photographs. A great portrait is enduring whether it memorializes a person’s life or just a single instant. The difference between a snapshot and a good portrait is more narrow than you’d think. Learn what constitutes an A+ portrait and how to incorporate the techniques used by professionals to create your images. In this class, students will study a wide variety of outstanding portrait photographs from three centuries of photography, including examples from advertising, editorial, fashion, music, documentary, sports, war, travel, and celebrity portraiture. Students will learn the varying components that make up a successful image, including posing your subject, lighting, angle, color, lense, mood, expression, and composition. Learn how to maximize each of these, elevating their portrait work from average to A+.
