Close to Home: Making Your Work More Personal

The last couple of months have profoundly shaken up how most of us live, work, and create. Get inspired by your personal, physical, or emotional spaces in this online class. Houston Center for Photography instructor, Lou Benjamin, will provide approaches for sorting through your experiences to make your work more personal. Whether you are just getting started or are a seasoned professional, this workshop will motivate you to use photography for creative expression and intellectual reflection. This workshop will explore capturing the domestic space through intimate portraiture, studies of personal ephemera, and observations of interior spaces from your home and surrounding neighborhood. Students will be introduced to visual language, photographic theory, and art history, as well as be encouraged to expand their photographic skills and knowledge of techniques.

Attention: This class has been moved online in response to the growing impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Please register as you normally would, and Houston Center for Photography staff will update you with information and a link to take this course at it’s scheduled time.

To participate in an online course, students will need access to a desktop or laptop computer with an internet connection. If you have any questions about navigating our new system, please email education@hcponline.org for more information.
