This online workshop will introduce students to On Photography, the watershed collection of essays about photography by Susan Sontag. First published in 1977 these essays, consider the force of photographic images and their place between experience and reality. This quick but intense tour of Sontag’s influential book will explore the history, context, and references within On Photography. Throughout the workshop, concepts of “transparency,” definitions of art, and how the image has affected society will be explored. Delve deeply into this iconic text with HCP’s new online class!
