Photography & Activism

Throughout the history of photography, many practitioners use the medium as a vehicle for social engagement and activism. In this class, students will look at the work of photographers who use conceptual and documentary photography and explore how they use the medium to help raise awareness and inspire conversation around issues and work towards a common goal for their respective communities. Students will be encouraged to explore different methods to enhance their photographic projects’ social engagement aspects through weekly assignments.
