Photojournalism & Visual Storytelling | Thursdays | 4 – 6 pm

Photojournalism is one of the most universal forms of mass communication. Reading and writing both require the knowledge of a specific language, but anyone can understand the visual image. Facial expressions, emotions, movement, and body posture, as well as composition, light, and shadow, can tell a story in the same way that words can. Join visiting artist, Brandon Thibodeaux, in this exclusive online class at HCP to begin storytelling through your photography today!

This course will cover shooting strategies, as well as editing, laying out, and sequencing images to help you develop as a visual storyteller. Through weekly assignments, you will gain hands-on experience going through the photojournalism workflow from conception to the final story. Lectures will include a survey of select past and contemporary practitioners working through various platforms.

Brandon Thibodeaux is a photographer and educator based in Houston, TX, who creates portraits in the documentary tradition. His work has been featured in numerous publications including American Photo Magazine, B+W Magazine, FT Weekend Magazine, Garden & Gun, Harper’s, Oxford American, New Yorker, The New York Times, Time.com, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post, among others.
