Picture Logic: Sequence versus Series

A class that examines the history and multiple arrangements of photographic sequencing while asking students to build a new body of tightly sequenced work over the course of several exercises. Students will edit from quantity towards a book, large-scale installation, performative lecture, or digital environment. We will build from the historical works and writing of Nathan Lyons into a conversation around the sequences of artists like Robert Frank, Carly Steinbrunn, Fumi Ishino and Lieko Shiga. We will investigate the structure that sequencing can bring to a world so oversaturated with images.
