Houston Center for Photography announces today the appointment of Anne Leighton Massoni as the Executive Director. Massoni, who has an extensive career in photography as an educator and photographer, comes with a depth of experience and knowledge of the field, of curating, and of the craft itself.
Most recently, Massoni served as the Dean and Managing Director of Education at the International Center of Photography in New York City. Her experience as a thought leader in photography is equally demonstrated by her board service at the Society for Photographic Education where she served as Vice Chair for two terms and her on going board service to the Print Center in Philadelphia. She is eager to join HCP in the new year, beginning January 2, 2023, working with the staff and board to create meaningful exhibitions, public programming, and course offerings while capitalizing on the existing exceptional programming at HCP.
“We are extremely excited as Anne joins the team at the Houston Center for Photography, where she will advance the Center’s mission focused on photography-based education, dialogue, and collaboration on the local, national, and international levels,” says Nancy O’Connor, President of the HCP Board of Directors. “Her experience with and her enthusiasm for photography and its ever-evolving nature as an art form will be a great boon as she steps into this role. We look forward to her leadership and to welcoming her to Houston in January.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining HCP as the next Executive Director of this important organization.” says Massoni. “I have long admired the contribution HCP has made to photography and look forward to collaborating with supporters, artists, donors, and other stakeholders to continue its position as a creative space for photography.”
In addition to her most previous role at ICP, Massoni has experience co-editing a publication on photography, The Focal Press Companion to the Constructed Image in Contemporary Photography (Routledge, 2018); she has worked extensively in a university setting as an educator in the field of photography most recently at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia; she has also curated many exhibitions while in Philadelphia at the Photography Program’s galleries including the long-standing Sol Mednick Gallery. She holds dual BAs from Connecticut College and an MFA in photography from Ohio University. |
